The Truth About Dating, Love & Just Being Friends was a review opportunity I was excited to take. I have two older children ages 18 and 20, and then I have two younger boys ages 13 and 11. My younger boys love to read. As they are on the cusp of dating, any and all materials that I can have confidence in are welcome.The book is written in a conversational tone aimed at the teenage set. Graphics help make the text engaging while highlighting the important concepts. There are even quizzes to help the reader see how the information is relevant to him/her.I thought it would be pertinent to get my teen son's opinion on the book. As a mom, I found it very informative and written at a level young teens can enjoy. Here's what he had to say:One of the things I disliked about this book is how some of the things he says can be misleading. The author may promise an answer to a question in chapter six, but the answer he gives the reader several chapters later, is often brief or very vague. The author may tell you that "in order for this to happen, you need to do that" but the author never explains how to do "that," suggesting that you should go pickup another book, and figure out how.One of the things, I liked about this book was the random facts the author adds in at the beginning of every chapter. I like how he relates the fact to what he is discussing in the chapter. Another thing I liked was how he would put his main points of each chapter on a separate line, away from the text. This makes skimming each chapter relatively easy.I would recommend this book to anyone who actually has questions about anything that the book emphasizes like dating. I would not recommend the book to anyone who does not have specific questions they think the book can answer. I do not think anyone should read this book for entertainment.*** I received a copy of this book free from BookSneeze for my honest review.

This book is absolutely incredible! I've read "The Truth About Guys" which was really a great eye opener, but this book was absolutely inspiring. I finished this in about two days and I can feel my head swell with all the knowledge. I could connect to every part if this book in some way, and it is put in a way that is so easy to grasp. It isn't a five step anything, but it flows and speaks to the soul. One of the best books for us teens, or pre-teens (who need to know this stuff ahead of time). The book is never boring, so those that prefer other, more action packed books, should consider that is the book is full of life. I think this is a book for everyone!!

Great resource as my daughter is entering high school. We needed something to talk about pros and cons of dating and when to start dating and such. After reading this my daughter realized that dating and guys can be fun, but she is not ready yet and it's just not logical to wrap herself up in boys already in her 9th grade year. Well done book!

My daughter is 16 and she loves this book! It has helped her a great deal in having a better understanding of dating relationships and given her a guideline and standard to follow! She has asked me to order it for a couple of her friends whenever a discussion about boys and dating comes up. It deals with questions from real teen boys and girls in regards to relationships (and other teen related issues) which the author addresses and offers some really good and wise advise. As a mother of four, I highly recommend it for ages 12 and up.

My girls (12, 15, 16) are reading this and have really enjoyed it so far. Chad is "real" and down-to-earth in his writing. I have not read this book; but have scanned it and listened to my daughter's enthusiasm...

I read the 1st Chapter of the book and was satisfied with what I read, now I can give the book to my newly 16 year old daughter and hope she enjoy reading it and be enlighten as I was.

Reading "Friend of a Friend" is like reading Malcolm Gladwell: engaging stories, fascinating research and practical advice on application. This may sound trivial but I also appreciated the size and design of this book. I travel a lot and at 58 years old my eyes are not what they used to be. This book was perfect in that it has an easy-to-read design without being a large-type version. It was easy to tuck in my briefcase or luggage. Every once in a while, all the aspects of a book line up including the content, writing, editing and book design. The team that contributed to this book got it all right and I congratulate and thank them for it.

First, let me say that I both know the author and received an advanced copy of the book - I did, however, go out and purchase a copy once it launched because the book is just that good!Now, the heart of the matter. If you have ever felt that the way that we currently do "networking" just seems off, then this book is for you. Burkus takes the reader through some surprising (or too often overlooked) realities straight out of the gate, including in chapter 1 when you realize that it is the weak ties in your network that have the most potential value for you.Chapters 3 through 6 were worth the price of the book (and more) just on their own, and will challenge the way that you look at finding not only your place inside of a networked society, but change the way you look at your friends and friend of friends.As someone who reads about 70+ books a year, this is one of the best nonfiction texts I have read in the last two years!

David Burkus has made a place for himself as a Nomad willing to reach out and say things that others might not have. His previous books were great and had tremendous relevance, and Friend of a Friend is no different. It brings to goods at a time when we are spending far too much time behind our "smart" devices and forgetting about authentic connection. In particular his chapters on "Resist Homophily" and "Build Stronger Ties Through Multiplexity" remind us all of the fact, that we have to step out of comfort zone and engage those that we may not have instinctually connected with, because they are different, or don't fit what we find works for our comfort zone, etc. It also tells us that we have to reach beyond what we know and understand, so that we can find deeper meaning from foreign (outside of our norms) relationships, and that these can often extend to the "Friends" we need to engage with to find great change and enhancement to our lives. Finally, this book is great for those that may naturally be more on the introverted side of things, as it opens a number of ways to more comfortably and readily get past using the introverted stance as a blocker, and gives mechanisms to cope and reach beyond that stance, while still maintaining and authentic self.

I received an advance copy of this book, and am kicking myself for not finding the time to read it sooner.There was not a single chapter I didn't find valuable (see dogears in photo). I could immediately see how to apply the science to my own work, and in many cases, I was inspired by the stories to create my own networking activities. And along the way, I picked up some neat trivia, too. (Did you know Sequoyah single-handedly developed the written Cherokee language that is still used today?)Each chapter starts with a summary of the wisdom contained within. Burkus then cites research, case studies, interviews, and conversations that all demonstrate the idea posed in the summary. Each chapter ends with action steps for you to analyze your own network ("From Science to Practice"), and ways to incorporate social media into your practice.Highly recommended! (I've already passed my copy on to a colleague.)As a fun aside: I was one of the kids they monitored as part of the Framingham Heart Study mentioned in the conclusion. (Being "mentioned" in the book did not affect my rating.)

Anyone who says that they love networking (the traditional way - events, lunches, clubs, etc) is either lying or they have a screw or two loose. But no one can deny the importance of having a strong network of contacts whether in a business or personal life (ever moved out an apartment by yourself?)Friend of a Friend is THE way that networking should work and I can give personal testimony to exactly what David Burkus outlines in his book. This mindset and this strategy works!This goes way beyond the principles of "who you know" primarily because this book gives real world examples of HOW to create or rekindle those important relationships and how to nurture them to lasting success. This is where the work comes in and admittedly, I can see where many people might now like hear that genuine success does involve genuine work.The stories Burkus features are fascinating and inspiring but the real gold is in the action steps. Moving from theoretical to tactical makes Friend of a Friend even more enjoyable and frankly one of the most valuable books I've read in the past few years.I recommend Friend of a Friend to anyone hoping to build their worth and their network (they go hand-in-hand), but I especially think that all high school and college students should ready this before they graduate and "head out into the real world". Knowing and practicing these principles early will be a key to they future success.

My children LOVE all Usborne books so I was happy to see they had published this version of Little Women (it says original, meaning not abridged). However it's not in print any longer so I paid a bit more to buy a good used condition of the book. I'm in the process of reading it with my daughter and I realize it ends when Meg gets engaged. Which is really only half the book, leaving out Beth's death, Laurie and Amy, etc. Just FYI, since that probably explains why it is no longer in print and I would have purchase a different edition had I known that.

This is not the complete book. This is only the first part. Super annoying since I did not see it anywhere in the description. The book it self is wonder but this copy is a waste of your money.

Little Women is an old classic that was simply begging to be re-read. I think I started the book so many times when I was in elementary school that I had actually memorized the opening chapter. Every word rang as familiar to my eyes and heart as a forgotten Christmas Carol. But, but I don't remember ever finishing the book -- until this time.It's written in an old-fashioned style, and a little harder to follow than some more modern literature, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Even the rhythm of the words takes you back to a sweeter simpler time which was in reality a very harsh time in American history. For the uninitiated, LW details the life of four teen-aged sisters in the Civil War Era. Aside from their father being away from home during the first part of the book the war is not a main topic. It's all about the relationships between these sisters, their mother, their neighbor and later their budding romances.Take your time with this one. Read it slowly and savor.T

Kindle version is so bad, it's not worth the $.99. Literally could not follow the paragraphs, sentences, or line of text. This is a book I've read many times, and with a bit of nostalgia, decided to reread. Deleted after one or two chapters and repurchased a different edition. Don't waste your time.

This story opened my eyes as a very young girl to the awe and magic of books. For the first time, I realised what it was like to become immersed in the characters of a novel and enchanted with the loves and lives of Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy and of course, Laurie. As I was transported back to New England during the Civil War era, this book ignited a love of historical fiction that I have to this day at the old age of 69.As a child with no sisters, I read with wonder the day to day relationship between the sisters, leaving me envious and longing for that kind of closeness. When I first read this book, my youngest brother was very ill and died soon after, I felt such sorrow and empathy for frail, gentle Beth."Little Women" has the grace and charm of the 18th century and is a sparkling look into the fascinating world of girls as they become women. I recommend this classic novel to readers of all ages.

This is for the Kindle Edition: The story needs no review, but the illustrations can be a problem. They work fine on the Kindle app on my ipad. On my Kindle Fire, however, the illustrations don't work right and it causes you to loose the first sentence in each chapter. Not a real problem, but you should try for a sample first to see how that works on your device. The illustrations are nice.

Little Women is a timeless classic. The story is told in two parts. The first part focuses of the four young March daughters: Meg, Jo, Amy, and Beth. The story is told in the nineteenth century in a town setting. The March family is a loving family with a wise and lady mother who is trying to teach values, empathy, and love to her four daughters, while their father is a chaplain in the Civil War. The family is poor and struggle with finances. But the girls, led by rambunctious tomboy Jo, have wonderful times as they read, sketch, write and perform plays, and invent secret clubs. Each girl is different in character with ladylike lovely Meg, boyish Jo, elegant Amy, and home loving, faithful Beth. Jo and her family adopt the motherless and fatherless rich boy and neighbor, Laurie into their family. There is love, laughter, sisterly quarrels, and sadness woven into a beautiful family story. In the second part, the story begins with the marriage of the oldest sister, Meg. and her new life as wife and mother. Jo pursues her interest in writing. Amy has ambitions of becoming a lady and marrying into a rich family. Beth must deal with her lingering illness and hopes to remain with her family. Laurie is in love with Jo, but will she return the love of "her boy." This second part deals with growing up, romance, and the 19th Century expectation for women to marry and become mothers. The March family will touch your heart and remain in your memory as they learn to step out on their own to transition from little women to beloved wives.

The classic, "Little Women" is one of those books many people think they have read because they've seen several versions of it in films. The book is much better than the films, as usual. Occasionally a little over the top in the sermonizing, but one has to remember that it was written in a more spiritually vibrant time - just after the US civil war. The strong bonds between the sisters are heartwarming. The family faces some serious hardships, but their love for one another and for their neighbors makes them take hard times in stride.The story deals with pride, envy, frustration and love in realistic ways. I celebrates creativity and perseverance. The characters really become dear to the reader. Jane Austen is brilliant at description. I wondered whether I would have different images of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy, as well as Laurie, if I had read the book before seeing Winona Ryder's version of the movie. I do think that film captured the essence of the March family. Young women should definitely take the time to read "Little Women."

I have only made it through the first 7 Chapters and I have already implemented a lot of what Belinda talks about! Belinda tells it like it is and gives great ways to make your business work with you and for you! Some of this I have heard before yet to hear it again and in such a straight forward and easy to read format has made my life so much easier in my business! So Thankful for this book and all I am learning through this Dummies series.

Brenda Ellsworth has hit the mmark with this book and included so many excellent tips, it should be mandatory reading prior to joining any business. I have purchased copies for my team members with instructions to read this before doing anything else. My library is full of books with just a few lines of useful information. THE DECISION BY MEMBERS OF THE AMA TO PULL UP THE LADDER AFTER THEY HAD SECURED THEIR CREDENTIALS AND TRAINING AND ADOPT THE SLOGAN THAT LESS IS MORE IS ONE OF THE MOST EVIL ACTS ANY GROUP HAS EVER COMMITTED IN THE NAME OF IMPROVING PUBLIC HEALTH. This is one of those classic reports that everyone references but very few people have actually read. I read it in connection with a report that I was writing about commissions. It was written by Abraham Flexner (a sort of one-man commission funded by the Carnegie Foundation) at the turn of the twentieth century, and it single-handedly revolutionized American medical education--and, in the process, American medicine. I knew that when I bought it. What I didn't know was how wonderfully readable it is, with Flexner's lively prose and acerbic wit bringing to life the untamed, primitive world of American medical education as it existed before he sank his teeth into its neck and put it out of its misery. A fascinating example of how one man really did make a very big difference!

This was extremely helpful to me. Flexner was the right man at the right time.

First, be assured that this is a faithfully reproduced copy of the Flexner report, not an OCR mess. The text is definitely readable. Second, be prepared to marvel at how Flexner went about his assignment. He actually visited all of the 150 medical schools that existed in the US and Canada in 1910. Of these he found 120 not worth saving . He makes is clear that the remaining 30 would be able to meet the need for MDs, and these 30 medical schools could be molded into institutions that produced the kind of physician that patients deserved. HIs recommendations served as the template for medical education for the next 100 yeas. As a physician who experienced (1953-57) the kind of training that Flexner advocated, I was truly excited to read how that system of medical education evolved.
