Explains in great detail why Darwin's evolutionary theory is completely false.
Very intriguing book that makes you ask questions.
The author presents an excellent argument which should result in a thoughtful reanalysis of the theory. That will never happen since the pro-Darwin camp will never acknowledge the possibility of a creator; however, this book is valuable reading for anyone open to a very serious critique of many aspects of the theory.
This book is a collection of essays compiled and commentated on by Dr. James P Gills and Dr. Thomas Woodward, designed to refute modern science's pervasive allegiance to macro evolution. Each essay is very thorough and most are quite technical. A scientific background is helpful with some of the chapters, especially the Complexity of the Cell and the Design of the Vertebrate Retina (although both establish the entire point of the authors without any other argument necessary.)Chapter 5 offers an excellent synopsis of the most relevant evaluations in this ongoing debate. It provides all the major points of the empirical and philosophical critiques of Darwinism in seed form. If you're looking for just the broad overview, this is your chapter!Chapters 6 and 7 proved to be my personal favorites. Chapter six details the Cambrian Explosion and the Rediscovery of the Burgess Shale both as significant obstacles to current macro evolutionary theory.In Chapter seven, Thomas Woodward puts Dr. Michael Behe's book, Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution, up against Darwin's own words in The Origin of Species. Darwin said,"If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down." The discovery of molecular biology brought the concept of irreducible complexity to the forefront of the evolutionary debate. Woodward summarizes Behe's position as, "modern evolutionary theory, applying Darwin's own test, flunks spectacularly at the molecular level."The book's conclusion brings all of the essays and all of the technical scientific data to one spectacular point: "Science in its search for truth has sought independence from dogma, ostensibly religious doctrine, and yet scientists have clung pertinaciously to another doctrine that is so silken and seductive, so integral and unquestioned as to be as much the organizing principle of an entire discipline as an explanatory device of individual instances." The author's point? Evolutionary science has become it's own religion and it's like the Emperor's New Clothes. Can the immovable position of today's scientific community "be interpreted as anything but hesitance to open the eyes and face the deeper truth that obviously shines through the breaks and faults of a thin and fractured surface?"But all is not lost. "As the masses tremble before their god of science and its liturgies of statistics [and] society slumps into alienation," James Gills reminds us of the Truth and opens the door for grace; the intelligence we were gifted with to behold the beauty of the Designer's plan. "If we deign to look, we will see God's eye in the sun, His gesture in the bee's waggle dance, and His arms in the ocean's fragrant embrace."

I like this book a lot. It provides an excellent argument integrating the world view of Faith in God with Science. It is a collection of essays by Intelligent Design proponents including some you may have heard of (Dembski, Johnson, Behe, and Thaxton) along with some that I had not personally heard of (Gills, Woodward, Hartwig, and Ayoub). In some cases, the articles were written for other publications and are either reprinted or revised for this book. It is unapologetically Christian referring to Biblical teaching while integrating that with a wealth of evidence. The underlying theme, which is articulated most clearly by Philip Johnson and addressed from various angles by other contributors is that the debate is NOT between Creationism and Evolution but between World Views - Christian faith and Naturalism/Scientific Materialism. They also point out how the Materialist imports his metaphysic into the debate and unjustly skews the debate by unilaterally determining what is allowed, etc.There is not a whole lot of new stuff in the book. Some of the examples are repeated over and over (irreducible complexity, for one). However, it is very accessible to the reader and even though the discussion gets very detailed in spots, just about any reader can follow it.One of the real highlights of this book was the chapter by Michael Behe. His first part isn't new, just his concept of irreducibility and the example of the flagellum. However, in the second section, he takes on two people, Kenneth Miller and Russell Doolittle, who have boasted to destroying his irreducible complexity. I had read of this in other reviews and was very happy to find the rebuttals here. In both cases, the people in question overlooked some very important details in Halls research experiment (Miller) and T.H. Bugge, et al's work on blood clotting. It turns out that Miller and Doolittle have been careless in their handling of the facts and when the whole report is read, both experiments provide strong evidence for irreducible complexity. In fact in Hall's experiment, he had to intervene with an artificial inducer, IPTG, to move the experiment along. Behe points out that this is investigator interference adding information (design?) to the experiment. It shows that scientists who are highly motivated to bash ID can and do make mistakes and cook the results. They and their findings may not be reliable at face value. The third section of Behe's article deals with the evolutionary myth that ID is not falsifiable. Both Miller and Doolittle attempted to falsify ID by using lab experiments, although they were unsuccessful because of carelessness and lack of supporting data. However, this failed attempt shows that ID IS falsifiable and that complaint from evolutionists is bogus. Further, he makes an interesting point that evolution is NOT falsifiable because of the way Darwin stated it in his book. So, the pot has been calling the kettle black for all of these years!!!Thaxton makes an interesting point that if Origins is best explained by intelligent design, then the whole paradigm changes and mechanistic proposals may be found lacking. This is already a huge problem with the discovery of information (DNA) in the cell.Ayoub's discussion of the design of the Vertebrate Retina is very interesting. I had read summaries of it elsewhere, but it was very nice to read the whole article.Evolutionists will not like the book and will pan it. However, it does an excellent job of defining the relationship between Christian belief and real science. It takes both very seriously and dispels the artificial constraints that Materialism has placed on the debate. It also points out how evolutionists may be more faith-based than they admit to being.As I said, I really liked this book!!
