This is an amazing overview, all the more so because Coomaraswamy obviously carefully edited the verses. The commentary is outstanding! At first I was disappointed by the small size but that soon gave way to amazement. It is an essay after all! I wonder if he knew Sri Aurobindo given their individual efforts for India's independence. Aurobindo's SECRETS OF THE VEDAS is a more spiritual slant on this material but I feel that this work inspired that. In any case, this book is a must for anyone seeking to understand the multilayered nature of the Vedas. It will take a while to read through because of the parenthetical manner of his writing, but just persevere and make sure to read every single note at the end of the book.
