Incredible oral and pictorial history of the legendary Latin Quarters club. If you love hip-hop, this is a must read and should be required reading for all those getting into the culture. I was transported to 1986-1987 I was 13 years old in my suburb of Boston and feeling the progression from the early / mid 80's era to the Golden Era that Rakim, BDP,PE and others spearheaded.Amazing stories and pictures included in here that will make your hip-hop subconscious wander and imagine the scene and how monumental it must have been.

If you want a first-hand account about the Latin quarters and the role this club played during the Golden Era of hip-hop this is the book for you hands down the best book I have read in regards to any New York hip hop club!!

Excellent nostalgia for the hip hop connoisseur. Well written.

This book has become an essential item on our coffee table. My husband is an avid LP collector. I know nothing about records. But, we both thought this book was fantastic. Once we got it, we couldn't stop turning the pages. We've left it on our coffee table for the past month. All of our friends who come over start thumbing through and laughing hysterically. They won't put it down until they've gone through the whole thing and picked out their own favorite weird album. It's been the best conversation piece we've ever had. Some of the album album covers are amazing, while others are amazingly...AMAZINGLY...bad. That's the joy of it. Where else can you find art to go with the albums like "My Wife Bought a Taxi," "Yodeling Praises Unto the Lord," "Music to Massage Your Mate By," and "Music for your plants"? I just wish the pages were bigger - I would have loved to see these things the same size as the actual album covers. It would be fun to actually hear some of these albums...I'm curious if the music is as weird and interesting as the cover art. It makes me want to start going to yard sales and picking through record piles to make my own collection. For now, I'll just go back to this book every few days. It always puts a smile on my face.

It explains all of the arrows and movements that you make with a sign, so you know which direction to go, or if you wiggle your fingers, or shake your wrist. There are a lot of useful vocabulary words, and also phrases. The chapters are seperated into different categories. And even though the illustrations aren't fancy, (I dunno what's going on with this guys hair and ears) they definitely do the trick. I would recommend buying this book if you are a beginner, or have been signing awhile. It's a really good investment.

I've been learning ASL for years and yet could never find a book that talked about grammar for more than a few pages. Given how complicated ASL grammar is, this was not very helpful and I struggled with proficiency in ASL grammar long past the time when I had gained a large vocabulary. I bought this book the second I saw it, and was not disappointed! Every page has several sentences, covering any topic imaginable, from restaurants to airports to daily conversation, and from simple to complex sentences. They provide explanations as well as dozens of examples for each rule, and every sentence is illustrated with a sign for every word. Overall, a great book for a signer of any level.

I have a 3 year old hearing impaired great grand daughter and have been having problems finding a learning tool that was educational and easy to understand. his book is amazing! It gives you easily understood signs and explanations that help you learn faster than any others I have bought. My grand daughter had me buy 3 more to give to family members. She showed it to Ali's hearing and speech teacher who also asked for a copy.

I would strongly recommend that this be the first book used for ASL study, due to the emphasis on phrases over individual words, and the highly effective section on correct grammar for ASL -- so often "signing" is presented from an English-speaking perspective, rather than with the full linguistic impact of American Sign Language. The illustrations are good overall, but I do look up some online for video reference. Great book!

This is a good book to use as a tool when learning ASL. I would not recommend it as a stand alone learning tool, but combined with other products, this book could significantly help you in learning and understanding the basics of communication in American Sign Language.

I bought the e-book but would have rathered the paper book. The e-book illustrations do not match up with descriptions...very frustrating.

This book was recommended to me by my ASL tutor, and not without good reason! The drawings inside are easy to understand and emulate (they also include facial expressions and body language) and the sentences provide a great example of ASL grammar. Some signs inside are SEE-sign, so it is important to use this book alongside a native signer of ASL or a teacher. However, this book is better than any ASL textbooks for beginners that I have encountered.

I got this book on a whim back when I studied ASL. Frankly, I expected to be disappointed. After all, how many times have you picked up a foreign language phrase book and found it to be mostly useless rubbish? ("My hovercraft is full of eels!" -- John Cleese)This book is a delight. Instead of just being a book of phrases or a collection signs, it's actually an ASL grammar in very active form. You get to see how phrases are concocted in normal settings. You get a feel for how the signs should flow together rather than being disjoint symbols. In short, this is the best book on how ASL actually works.I was tempted, as with another signing book, to give this 4-stars because I think book format for signing is outdated. However, the method of presentation of ASL found in this book surpasses much of what I've seen since, so I'm giving it the best rating possible.

So I couldn't make it past about 75% through book 2 of the series, and that was a struggle.What started as a out good, if not great concept, quickly devolved into a story about a once competent man sliding rapidly into idiocy as a woman leads him around by his d^*k. It began simply, with accepting a job he would otherwise have avoided. It progressed into engaging in whatever moronically irrational plan she concocted. And ultimately he became properly trained to make the asinine decisions all on his own.As this is happening, a steady stream of supporting characters proceed to tell him that he is undeserving of the woman's affection, and that they will destroy him if he ever hurts her. This despite him being one of the only people that has loyally stood by the woman since the beginning, despite him being the only competent fighter supporting her, despite the fact that she can't seem to act without making a disaster of everything, and despite her making decisions that nearly get her companions killed on a routine basis. Somehow he's the one that is undeserving?It's so rare these days to find a story written in the last few decades that doesn't revolve around a man's slide into senility at the prompting of a woman. It's a sad indicator of a culture in decline.

My third read from author Jacob Peppers. I'd gotten the Kindle edition for The Silent Blade back in April and never got around to reading it until the author gave me an Audfans audible edition for it, after reading/listening to it I went right out & bought A Sellswordâ€™s Compassion while it was on sale, then I went & got the Audible edition since the first narration was so good. Owning both the Kindle & Audible editions I was able to follow along while listening. Great read, great narration, Steven Brand has become the voice of Aaron Envelar! Then I got A Sellsword's Wrath while it was on sale & WOW! As good as the first books were this one was even better! What other blurbs can I use to describe these books? Oh well, buy the book, read the books, get into a good author and some good characters as I have. On to book #3 as soon as I buy it!. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Aaron is one of the stupidest and incompentant main characters I've read about in awhile. The author writes the story like nothing is wrong, while at the same time Aaron fails at everything he does, and is constantly saved by other people. How is it that Aaron was recognized walking to a tavern while the Princess wasn't? Plus, the whole situation with his friend was just ridiculous. Theres a difference between denial and grossly exaggerated stupidity.

The author successfully entrails the reader in the life of the main character. His confusions, aggressiveness, poor choices, loyalty, and so much more. Good read although, as I state in many books, the foul language adds nothing to the read and detracts for readers like me who do not use or care for it.

A Sellsword's Wrath is the second book in the Seven Virtues series. There's a good balance between characters and action. There's also a bit more romance. The evil characters are truly evil and our hero also struggles with his more monstrous side. The pace slows a few times, usually at the lighter moments. There's plenty of plotting by the different people in power. I wasn't convinced that Adina's sister could be so opposite to her - maybe in character, but not in looks. I already own a Sellsword's Resolve and will be reading that next!

Jacob tell an amazing story with believable twists and turns in a fantastic race to the end. I recommend his stories to everyone.

Decent read, but really needs to find an editor that will clean up the more painful grammatical errors that repeatedly occur throughout.

Iâ€™m seriously enjoying these books. Characters are easy to like...and hate lol.. excellent storyline. Iâ€™m a huge fan of fantasy and the like. This series hits the nail on the head. I have bought all of these for my kindle. Moving on to book 3

I was introduced to Ultimately Responsible as part of a leadership academy. It is the single most important book I have read on leadership. Sue Kibbey's hand-on approach makes following her model very simple.

This is a good entry-level book on ministry leadership. It gives good information to consider and sound practical advice to follow in developing one's leadership skills. The material is developed logically, chapter by chapter, beginning with understanding one's own innate leadership style and progressing through establishing a guiding focus in leadership, establishing a contagious ministry movement, developing ministry servants, leading and building a team, and leading successful change. This is a relatively short book, which means that it mainly summarizes the essentials in leadership. Each chapter could be expanded into a full book. Still, this is a good place to start if you are new to a leadership role or looking to hone your leadership skills.

If your servanthood is as a team leader, translating the cause, qualifying team members, growing team members, and quantifying results, then this is a book you will want to go back to often. This,in my opinion, is "bottom up type ministry," as opposed to top down. Good examples to explain the suggested processes and steps.

Many ships have sunk into the ocean over the years, but the Henrietta Marie carries special significance because of what she carried inside her hull in the years before her sinking. The Henrietta Marie was a slave ship, used to transport people into slavery and away from their homes on the West African shore. This book though is more about the experiences of the author, journalist Michael Cottman, as he learned about the ship's origins and travels. While there is little hope of discovering the specific individuals who sailed as slaves on the Henrietta Marie, Cottman still feels the connection to his own ancestors as he travels to England, Africa, and Jamaica, following the long distant travels of the ship. This reads a lot like a memoir as Cottman documents his thoughts and feelings as he visited the different locations of significance to the building and sailing of this slave ship. Reading this book reminded me of my own ancestors and how I feel when I visit places they've been, and how I would like to one day visit some of the other places of significance to them. I appreciated the inclusion of a few photographs, it helped make the text seem more real, more would have been nice though.

Not what I expected. I was hoping to learn more about the slave trade and the ship itself rather than his journey.

â€œNot all treasure is about glitter,â€ but about connection, heritage and legacy. A pile of shackles found on the bottom of the ocean led divers to find the Henrietta Marie, a sunken slave vessel from 300 years earlier. The pile of shackles found on the bottom of the ocean spoke of oppression, cruelty, and history. This history drove Michael H. Cottman, an experienced diver and Pulitzer Prize winning African American author, to immerse himself in the legacy of a shipwrecked ship. Spanning three continents, Cottman traced the route of the Henrietta Marie to its final resting place in the Gulf of Mexico, weaving in his own history with emotional stories of the slave trade. Along with archaeologist David Moore, Cottman visited England delving into the business side of the slave trade following the path of the iron shackles. In Jamaica, Cottman came to realize that it didnâ€™t matter whether he was related to anyone on the Henrietta Marie or not because â€œthey were my family.â€ In Senegal, Cottman visited Goree Island reflecting on the â€œcollective survival of African peopleâ€ despite the â€œcenturies of European plundering, kidnapping, and ransacking of villages.â€A deeply embedded sense of anger ran throughout the emotional narrative; anger for the slaves taken to a â€œterrifying new world where they were treated with cruelty and hatredâ€ and anger for the racial injustice that allowed African people to be seen as less than human and thus enslaved. My mind was stimulated with images and thoughts throughout the reading of this book. The Henrietta Marie was a slave ship that now rests below the ocean, and has been viewed and researched by black scuba divers. The impact of this is deep.At one point early in the book the author explains how small insignificant glass beads were used to trade for human lives. When I read this passage near the end of the book it stuck with me:"...I ran my hands through the grains of sand and plucked tiny blue, yellow, and purple beads from the ocean floor."

I love this simple-to-follow diet. It's easy for me to give up sugar. It's the carbs I have a hard time with. This diet allows plenty of carbs and works as long as you follow it. I didn't exercise at first until I lost a few lbs. I started to do cardio workouts 3 times a week along with the diet. It came off quicker. I also love that you can go out to dinner and not break the diet. Thank you Jorge Cruise for finding an easy diet to follow that works without so many restrictions.

It worked for me... the author is easy to read, and doesn't include a lot of technical crap, just puts his theory out there in common terms. I read the book and he had me convinced I could lower my A1C level, so I tried it. If you don't cheat, it works great. There are a lot of recipes of actual good things to eat that are easy to make and not terribly expensive. If you seriously need to lose weight or lower your sugar level, this works great.

I EASILY lost 40 pounds in a short time, and was NEVER hungry. That was five years ago, and I haven't gained a single pound back again. It's such an easy way of life, and I can still go out to restaurants and find a variety of meals to order. I have been on many diets in my life, but always gained the weight back. This is a forever diet that I am happy to live with.

I actually am on the Belly Fat Cure Fast Track version of Jorge's diet plan. I have lost almost 12 pounds since April, so I did not achieve the 14 lbs. in 14 days that he advertised in the Fast Track book. However, I think everyone's success is different from someone else's. It is also hard to stick religiously to it if you have to eat somewhere else than at home because no restaurant offers meals with absolutely no white or wheat flour and absolutely no sugar or sugar substitutes. Nor do most people who invite you to their house for a meal. And those two things are the basis of this diet. Get them out of your diet!! But I am able to stick with it and the weight is just dropping more slowly. If you love to cook, you can find all kinds of interesting carbless recipes online to satisfy your sweet tooth. If you like to bake, you can use almond flour, golden flaxseed flour, coconut oil, stevia powder and/or erythritol/xylitol to make very good substitute foods for your sweet tooth. If loving carbs is not your problem, you should do well eating protein and low carb vegetables. Another good thing about this plan is that you can eat most dairy products, except milk and sugared yogurts. Snacks can be almonds, pistachios, pecans and walnuts. If you don't want to try the Fast Track plan, the regular Belly Fat Cure book is much easier to follow. It includes more carbs, like pasta, potatoes and fruit.

My wife's sister found this and she started it. She has lost about 40 lbs and 10 inches in 4 months. Well, a few weeks in, my wife decided she'd try and so after a few more weeks, and me seeing how she and her sister were doing, I decided to try it. I've now lost 30 lbs in 8 weeks. It is a life saver. Every diet I've ever done has needed intense exercise to lose weight while on it. This one didn't require any exercise, which has helped my wife as she has a foot problem and it is hard for her to do any kind of exercising. But now that the pounds are coming off, we're starting to do more things, walk more, etc. because we now have energy we didn't have. So, I highly recommend this to anyone wishing to lose.

This book literally changed my life and I wish Id have known about it years ago. I was in an auto accident and was living with unbearable pain. Every doctor and specialist told me I would have to live with it and then would perscribe more drugs. I have never been over weight and never thought sugar was an issue. My chiropractors wife asked if I had ever considered it could be something I was eating. She told me that sugar is the most inflammatory food in the world and recommended this book. After 24 hours of limiting my sugar intake I had relief with some of the stiffness and within 3 days of changing my diet my pain dropped signifigantly! This book shows you how to be on an anti-inflammatory diet and enjoy all of the foods you eat. The recipies taste like a chef prepared them and everyone Ive cooked for using the book wants to buy it, this book is LIFE CHANGING and Ill never come off this diet!

First, the Belly Fat Cure system. I like this system. It's easy to do and if you don't like to count calories, this is a good one to try. Unlike other diets, this diet basically suggests an intake of a balanced amount of sugars and carbohydrates along with the other food choices. The material also teaches where hidden sugars are and gives suggestions on how to "swap" for good alternates. I have found though that with this diet, it would be easy to develop an elevated cholesterol count. I have made a few additions of vegetables and found alternates like using egg white products instead of whole eggs, but the basic plan works well.Second, the contents of the book. The carb swap suggestions are very good. It will help you stay on track at home. Some of the ingredients are hard to find, especially the ice cream and cookies the book suggests but I was able to find local alternates and of course there is always the Internet.Third, the book. It is well made and has nice pictures of prepared food. The spine allows the book to lay flat which is very important in the kitchen.Conclusion. I have been looking for a diet that I could maintain my weight. I attained my goal weight by counting calories and I was really frustrated by doing that so I just ate the same things often so I wouldn't have to keep up with the calorie count. Really boring! The series of books that Jorge Cruz has written have given me a diet that I could "live" with. I have no problem maintaining my weight and I eat many types of food now. I would like to mention that my wife and I eat the food and she has lost 27 pounds and counting! I told her today that we were going to have to get her a new wardrobe. I wasn't prepared for that cost but we'll take it LOL! We are both happy with the diet and our friends are too! But that's another story!Good luck!
