This is a terrific book for anyone with an interest in Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and his Afrika Korps. As the title suggests, the book covers the Afrika Korps from it's beginning through El Alamein. Great black and white photos of tanks, armored cars, half tracks, troops etc. are numerous as well as maps, color profiles, tables of organization of component units and a brief biography of "The Desert Fox" can be found between the covers of this paperback, oversized tome! This is a great companion book for a serious study of the Desert War in the North African theater. See my Listmania List "World War Two North African Desert War" for further recommendations. I am very glad I purchased this fabulous book! Samuel W. Mitcham Jr.'s books would match up well with this title! Trivial history review, but some really nice TO's with numbers and details of items on hand in different units at specific points in time. Also many nice pictures. Mainly of interest to modelers or maybe gamers, but then refer to daily field reports in the National Archives. The Germans often did not differentiate types of half tracks, or soft skins or armored cars in their daily reports. They were more specific as to tanks, but may not have distinguished specific marks in their daily "fit for duty lists" so there is room to speculate.

The stories told are similar to those in other books on the subject; nothing really new to say.The value in this book are the pictures, color plates of military vehicles, and explanations of the evolution of mobile warfare in North Africa by both sides.

An excellent book for historians who study Rommel.

Best TO&E charts I have seen for the Afrika Korps. It would be nice if Bradford did a sequel encompassing the end game in North Africa.

This book is a wonderful addition to the library of the WW2 enthusiast. The book as the title describes is a short outline of the German Afrika Korps or D.A.K. if you prefer up until the battle of El Alamein. The book follows a timeline of the forming of the first divisions in Europe that would spearhead the force that would go to North Africa right up until the retreat from El Alamein after a long and hard campaign.Now I have to say the book is not a densely packed written account but more of a guide book to which divisions were fighting, the equipment they had, and the order of battle. You will not find a lot of detailed info on particular battles but only a brief outline given in several chapters under each heading. The reader should not expect a blow by blow account of each battle but simply a timeline with any major factors that concerned the tide of the battle covered. The book is more of a technical manual with a bit of history added so do not count on it to fully explain the desert war to you.There are lots of charts, and I mean lots of charts. Each division is broken down into a chart with silhouettes showing which vehicles were in the divisions inventory at the time of certain battles or major events. However, you don't just a little picture of a tank. You get hundreds of pictures of black silhouetted tanks, trucks, motorcycles, and artillery. Each picture is a faithful representation of the actual vehicle or piece of equipment. So you will see Panzer IIIs, Bisons, and Zundapps faithfully represented. Not only are the German vehicles represented but any captured British equipment that was in use at the time of the particular battle or attack is also shown. This gives you an idea of how much research was involved in putting this volume together. To know what was in use by the Germans at a particular time takes a lot of work by the author as the equipment was turned over a such a great rate in the desert due to breakdown and combat losses. The author does thank several well-known historians and authors at the beginning of the book whom he says were an integral part of his research and it definitely shows up in the body of the book. I have to add that there are also charts showing the Italian armies equipment and to some extent as well as the British armies equipment but the majority of the books pages belong to the German Army.There are many black and white photos of the North African campaign added to the volume as well as some colour plates showing various vehicles of the desert war of not only the German but British and Italian armies as well. These plates are a nice addition as they give you a sense of the vehicles and not just a shadow.There is a heavy emphasis on Rommel in this book and duly so. His guidance and command of the D.A.K. was probably the only reason they succeeded for as long as they did. He was a brilliant tactician and not afraid of taking gambles which in most cases paid off for him. In the end, he was simply trying to do a job without the adequate tools needed to accomplish the goals. With the war on the Russian Front taking most of the needed supplies Rommel was forced to simply use up what he had.There is a short biography of Rommel in the center of the book giving a timeline of his entry in to the German Army during WW1 in which he performed outstandingly right up until he was forced to commit suicide in 1944 due to the cleansing of the army performed by the Gestapo after the assassination attempt on Hitler. Rommel's involvement in the plot was hidden at the time he was offered the option of suicide or a public trial because the effect it would have on the German people knowing their greatest general was involved would be devastating to the moral of the people. Rommel chose suicide by ingesting a poison pill to save his family and his honor.All in this entire book is a masterful showing of the Africa Korps and its wide range of materials and weapons. Simply something you have to have on the shelf for that time when you need a particular tidbit of information.

A good map of Portland

This was more an Oregon map. Not enough detail of Portland. Very disappointed.

I wish that it was closer in on Portland and not so panned out. It gives you a good snapshot, but hard to find main cross streets and the like.

Great for getting around downtown.

Blind Descent is a fascinating story about the quest to discover the deepest place on Earth. Our two main characters are Bill Stone, an American who has devoted years to exploring the vast Cheve Cave in southern Mexico, and Alexander Kimchouck, who is exploring the Krubera supercave in the Republic of Georgia. I knew nothing about the world of supercaves so I found the book to be particularly interesting. These are not the caves we visit as tourists to see stalactites and stalagmites. These are monstrous subterranean chambers that can go on for miles, and the people who explore them are far from normal. The conditions are always dangerous, and the cavers survive (usually) in unbelievably harsh surroundings.I found Blind Descent to be a book that I did not want to put down and one that introduced me to a world that I will certainly never experience firsthand. An excellent effort by Mr. Tabor.

Tabor does a great job of telling the true story of the international push for the deepest cave in the world. Described, in detail, that almost puts you in the cave, and certainly in the mind, of the leaders of the expeditions. I found it extremely interesting how Tabor compared/contrasted the leaders and what drove them while continuing to use the caves as the third set of characters. I was 50 pages in before I realized it was non-fiction. I was hooked either way.I accidentally purchased this, thinking it was the first Hallie Leland novel, as I enjoyed Frozen Solid immensely. After reading this, I will be buying Deep Zone and expect it to be great just based on Blind Descent. If the truth is this good, I can't wait to see what Tabor's imagination does with it.

This book was fascinating because I was totally unfamiliar with cave exploration, so it was all new to me and intriguing in the same way that stories about mountain climbing are - think "Into Thin Air," although not nearly as well written. The book did a good job of describing the more difficult parts of the descents, but I would have appreciated more newbie details - there were references to tools that even Wikipedia didn't know very much about. And, as it says in the blurb, the book highlights the different approaches taken by two teams going for the deepest cave - and the two approaches were very different and so were the results - interesting reading.

I'm a big fan of any sort of non-fiction book about the survival ability of human beings in extreme environments. I've read books about Everest, Antarctica, the Amazon, and Outer Space... and now I will be adding 'inner space' to the list. And it turns out that this story of deep caves and the people who feel the need to explore them is one of the most exciting books that I have ever read! I couldn't stop turning pages, late into the night, until I finished this one.Blind Descent follows the journey of two high profile 'cavers': Bill Stone of America and Alexander Klimchouk from the Ukraine. We hear about their struggles through deadly cave networks, their drive to push their expeditions deeper through personal risk, scientific research, and almost unimaginable bravery. This book is filled with harsh stories of how dangerous these supercaves can truly be. The almost alien cave world is well described, and I really did feel at times that my dark bedroom illuminated by Kindle light was actually some cavern chamber thousands of feet below the Earth. Thankfully I don't have to worry about navigating a 500 foot cliff or scuba diving my way through a pitch black world of sudden dead-ends and surprise waterfalls. I have nothing but respect for the cavers in this book.If you're into tales of exploration at all, then I'd highly recommend this book. I don't have many negative comments at all. The only thing I can think of is that there are some photos in the Kindle edition of this book, but the small black and white doesn't really do these supercaves justice - so I went online to check out a bunch of photos. I'd highly recommend doing this if you get into the book.UPDATE: I just noticed that Bill Stone (one of the major players in this book) did a talk about cave exploration on TED. disclaimer: I've always had a special interest in caves, having visited a "semi-wild" cave about 30 years ago."Blind Descent" is quite a ride, although, personally, I don't get the groups' desire to be the first to the deepest place on Earth; I seem to be missing the competitive gene altogether. Still, the vast amounts of money and huge chunks of time spent and the constant potential for serious or deadly injury are most interesting. In my opinion, the author shows particular strength with his explanations of equipment or techniques that may not be familiar to the reader; his word choices are down-to-Earth and easy to understand, without being condescending. Taking an example from page 5, one which many people will be familiar, "A locking carabiner (an aluminum loop, about the size of a pack of cigarettes, with a hinged "gate" on one side) connected the harness to the rappel rack..." I have a carabiner in my pocket, but I'd have been hard-pressed to explain what it is! Similar explanations make the book very easy to follow, even for readers who know nothing about climbing. Bravo to Mr. Tabor for making a deeply technical subject so readable! Highly recommended.

Okay, so the book is in two parts, and I feel should have two separate reviews.Part 1- The Original...kind of.This part was great, it told the original story, but adding in extra details that really enhanced the movie. This part of the book gets an easy 5 stars. I love the scenes and feelings added and I love that it gave all of the characters more life.Part 2- The Sequel...humphWhen the original movie came out, I was young, but I loved it and I always hoped for a sequel. There were so many ways they could have gone about a sequel as well, but all of the obvious choices seem to have been disregarded. The original characters that made a return here were missing just about every aspect of the full character that they had, they went from being 3D to just being flat. I was disappointed in this, especially the Sanderson Sisters, I mean come on! Then there was the failed plot lines, like Mary starting to think maybe Winnie is off her rocker, I honestly thought she was going to turn against her at one point, but no she follows along like a "good little sister". There were so many things that went wrong that I was just waiting to finish the story...only to have them leave it open for another book. Overall I'd give part 2 two and a half stars, I simply felt robbed of the sequel this really deserved.

Fans of Hocus Pocus (the movie) should really enjoy this novelization and sequel. The first third of the book is a fairly straightforward adaptation of the movie, with some changes; instead of telling the tale of the three witch sisters in 1693 before moving to 1993, the book tells the 300-year-old events as flashbacks interspersed with the later events in the early chapters. The book also really fleshes out the characters, particularly Max, as our point-of-view character. We really get into his head and see how he feels about his sister, Allison, his recent move to Salem, and how he is reacting to the events around him.The rest of the book is what fans will really want to see: what happens next! Set 25 years after the events of the movie (which was released 25 years ago, coincidentally), we catch up with the town of Salem, particularly Max, Allison, Dani, and Jay, one of the bullies from the movie. However, just as the original movie was about the teens, not the adults, this story focuses on Salem's teens: Poppy (the daughter of Max and Allison) and her friends Isabella and Travis, and Katie, the daughter of Jay, now the high school principal.The story works very effectively as a sequel. The tone feels very consistent with the original: tongue in cheek for the most part, but with some moments of genuine menace and creepiness. Of course, the story involves the return of the Sanderson sisters, with the mechanism for that return different and yet connected to the original. It involves a group of teens trying to stop them, with a teen crush at the heart of the group. This time, however, the crush is between Poppy and Isabella, and both Isabella and Travis are African American, giving this cast a greater degree of diversity and representation this time around. The story is similar enough that it feels like a genuine sequel to the original, and different enough that there's a point to telling this new story.AW Jantha writes a fast-paced, visual story, as befits a novel based upon--and expanded from--a fast-paced, visually oriented movie. She also provides a great deal of character depth, so you really care about what happens to Poppy and her friends. (You care about Max and Allison and everyone, too, but we already know what happens in their story from the movie.) This is a fun, light-hearted young adult novel of the supernatural, and I recommend it whether you've seen the movie or not.(There's also something of a throw-forward at the end, hinting at future stories. I hope that's more than just a tease, because I would really enjoy reading future adventures of Poppy and her friends.)

Pretty much everyone loved the movie Hocus Pocus, so having it in book form was a must for me. It fills in a lot of little bits of information on all the characters and is such a fun revisit to a favourite holiday classic. The ending had an interesting twist to it that is not seen in the Disney movie, but is important. I wish they had put it in. That alone made the purchase worthwhile, imo.Moving on to Part 2; The Sequel. It has some flaws. It moves along slowly, then speeds up, slows down, then really moves forward. I would have like things more evenly paced to keep my interest. Part 1 was hard to put down. Part 2 took a few days to read, which is rare for me. Disney decided to get all politically correct with tossing in one lesbian teen and 2 black characters. None of this matters nor added to the story. If anything, it stole time away from more scenes of the Sanderson Sisters (and co) as well as other beloved characters like Binx, Emily, Max, Allison and Dani. Once it did get moving the action was non-stop and I was on pins and needles wondering how this would end! Did it end? Ah, that is the prize of it all. It ends this particular chapter but another starts right up, leaving us open and ready for yet another adventurous book, and I say bring it on!If this goes to movie form, be it big screen or small, they will need to condense a lot of it and keep it flowing to captivate the audience. The kiss at the end was just cheesy. Just like it would have been cheesy to have Max and Allison making out in a cemetery in the first Hocus Pocus book/movie. They didn't go there, and they shouldn't have taken that route in the sequel. I hold out hope that a third book will come forward. This will be a yearly read for me, each October, revisiting the old and new gang, and, well, the other that comes forward.... Get ready for a lot of Abracadabra!

In the ensuing 50 years, they have unleashed & sustained greater & more fundamental changes to their products, but none were such sharp departures, nor incorporated so many changes to basic engineering at one time in a single product. But, it must be remembered, that the Corvair's essential brief was as an economy car, and as such, many compromises were made in bringing it to market at a low price point. So while it is fair to say that rarely had so much car been offered for so little, it is not reasonable to overlook its faults. This book is about overcoming or at least ameliorating some of those faults from a driver's point of view [as opposed to a commuter's or a passenger's.]It is important to remember that no Corvair on the road today is less than 40 years old, and the majority [due to declining sales late in its production life] are pushing 50. So you cannot hope to equal the performance of a modern car for anywhere near what it would cost to just go out & buy a modern car. If that's your goal, please stop now & reassess your objectives. On the other hand, if you like the vintage look or perhaps inherited a Corvair from your grandparents & want to drive it in modern traffic w/o embarrassment, then maybe this book is for you.That brings up one of the best features of the book: the author breaks down mods into street, dual-use, and race only [yes, people race Corvairs: there's a whole range of vintage racing opportunities across the country.] Most importantly, he states clearly when certain mods should be undertaken for safety reasons for any car that's not strictly a show car [ie, never driven.]At any rate, I'm very pleased w/ the purchase of this book. It is well-written, thorough, and most importantly, up to date. It was a long time coming, but worth the wait. Thank you Mr. Emerson!

I chose this book as a way to get deeper into the mystery engine that inhabits all Corvairs. The book is written in such a manner that most anyone can pick up tidbits of information even if you have never held a wrench. There is a good deal of history (practically a genealogy of development) that is very helpful in figuring out what you have, how it got that way and that the GM engineers got much more right than most people (I.e. Nader) gave them credit for . I do plan to use this book as a guide to go through a 110 engine this winter. At this point I am still working my way through it and am well over half way there. I am building confidence that I can do most of the engine rebuild and upgrades, but more importantly it is pretty clear where I will need to farm some of the work out.

Whether you're road racing, autocross racing, or just building a fun toy for the street, Seth's book is an indispendable resource for any Corvair owner!

One of the most difficult aspects of the path is my own tendency to complicate life with judgments and the need to control. Bayda's book offers powerful advice on how to best deal with those issues. Just let things be. My favorite phrase from the book, "We can learn at home even in the midst of the muddy waters of our lives" is the basic wisdom of this book. Practice is where you are at any giving point of the day. Bayda's book Being Zen is an excellent guidebook on working on letting be rather than always trying to make things happen. The wisdom of looking at our difficulties as an opportunity to practice is profound as well. Bayda's chapter on how we construct our "substitute life" was also pertinent to me as well. As a public school administrator, it quickly became clear to me how much of what I do each day is shaped by conditioning, or decisions and choices made long ago when I became a teacher. Being aware means I am in touch with these which allows me to be more open in all aspects of my life. This book has so much wisdom in it, I am sure I'll be returning to it again and again.

This little book has given me so much more than what I spent on it.I carry it with me. It wont solve your problems for you, butit will provide a new way of looking at things if you let it. a better way.guess what? I'm happier for having read it.

This book definitely dives a little deeper than other ZEN / Buddhism books I've read thus far. Prior to this book, I read Steve Hagen's "Buddhism Plain and Simple" (I also just purchased his other title, "Buddhism Is Not What You Think" -- soon to be read)... I have to admit, Steve Hagen is much smoother, and more comprehensible in his writing style than Ezra, but now we're getting into personal preference. Either way, I may get another book on Ezra to feel him out further...I would like to add a few notes as I do with all of my reviews; the reason for this being -- if any new readers find my points interesting, then I'm doing my small part of bringing this material to light (prior to purchase). I find this much more useful than going into the whole story about the book.*HIGHLIGHTS, that's what we need...1. To see things for what they are --Not to label `good' or `bad', but simply observe the existence of your feelings, doubts, fears, and all of the wonderful things around you as well. This is the 1st step -- to SEE. Don't hang onto certain feelings and look to eradicate others because they don't make you feel good, just notice your awareness to them. To be in touch with `good', `bad', OR indifferent; and REALIZE they are just feelings, beliefs, etc. Moreover, they are not the real YOU; they are just a small part of the "whole you". In closing, your purpose is to experience the whole, and not get attached to the smaller fragments...2. All things come /go --(Including: our moods, frame of mind, even our worst feelings and thought). All things change. We must realize this truth and then allow these feelings to move on. Do not cling to any of these emotions. Rather, discern their existence, realize where they are coming from and allow them to pass. By practicing this exercise, you are allowing yourself not to get tied down, but to be freed instead...3. You can only learn so much in good times --Conversely, through pain, suffering, anger, and anxiety - we can learn a great deal indeed. Instead of pushing these feelings away, we should embrace them as our teachers that have a lot to offer. Pain is not suffering. Pain simply IS & we must learn to acknowledge & accept this fact of life. When you finally succumb, and realize PAIN IS - then you understand that you shouldn't push away, for you cannot turn your back on your life, your path. Also, at some point you surmise that pain allows you to feel compassion for others too. Ultimately, your heart opens to others who might be suffering.4. Hardships / Obstacles --These are simply `our path' at the present time. With that said we must look at each obstacle and impediment openly and learn what we can through this process. Lastly, we need strength to stay with this particular life and the present moment as it is, as oppose to always running from pain. You cannot run away from life and turn a blind eye. To be present, to be truly present and mindful - we must look at life in its entirety.Be aware - be awake to all that is happening inside and around us...

If it is true, as the adage goes, that good things often come in small packages, then here we have some tangible evidence in the form of this wonderful first book from Zen teacher Ezra Bayda. A "small package" indeed, at under 150 reduced-size pages, and yet brimming with more useful information and sage advice than many a larger book.Much of the useful information contained in Being Zen is concentrated in its opening section, "The Basics of Practice". In these chapters, Bayda first helps us to understand how we are all "skating on thin ice" by investing so much energy in attempting to control every aspect of life, and then offers practical suggestions for using meditation practice as a way of learning how to simply be with what is. One of my favorite take-aways from these "how-to-meditate" chapters involves a technique Bayda calls "three-by-three" in which you gradually expand your sensory awareness to include first your breathing, then the air around you, and finally your physical posture - and then you hold these three distinct aspects in a unified awareness for three full inhalation-exhalation cycles. This is a very effective exercise for grounding yourself in the here-and-now of the present moment.The two sections that follow - "Practicing with Emotional Distress" and "Awakening the Heart of Compassion" - contain a wealth of sage advice. Of particular value for me was the chapter on practicing with anger, a masterful explicitation of this intensely negative emotion as the natural outcome of our unwillingness to be with things as they are. It would be impossible - and perhaps harmful - to try to distill the process Bayda defines for working with anger in one or two sentences here. Instead, I will simply point out that he makes a profoundly useful distinction between "expressing anger" and "experiencing anger" that, once understood, can completely transform one's approach to dealing effectively with the impulse to anger.The book closes with several truly moving accounts of Bayda's experiences as a hospice volunteer, by way of demonstrating both the value and the limits of loving-kindness as a meditation practice, and a powerful free-verse poem he wrote on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday entitled, "What Is Our Life About?", which concludes with the words, "Time is fleeting. / Don't hold back. / Appreciate this precious life."To which I would add, as the conclusion of this review - Appreciate this precious book.

I love this book. When I was going through some difficult times, a friend recommended this book to me. It was like a breath of fresh air to my mind. It opened my eyes to the value and beauty of Zen Buddhism. It is written in a simple, yet beautiful language. The poem from the end of the book is framed on the wall of my room. "Nowhere to go, No one to be, just Being.."

A Great Read if you want the Nitty-Gritty of How Today's "Cruise Line Empires" were formed. The section on Carnival Cruises start, was Ominously Horrifying (on par with Recent Carnival Chaos!"), particularly the part on the Burst Pipe on one of the early ships, and a Young Woman (it was almost as if Stephen King wrote the anecdote- but it's Sad and TRUE!). If you want the Dirt on the Rise of the Big Cruise Lines (Carnival, NCL, and Royal Caribbean), "Devils on the Deep Blue Sea" is for you.This Book is Factual, Objective, and Powerful. The Cover isn't telling, but it tells all you need- to suck you in like a Maelstrom!

I love business biographies and this one is a pretty good one on the cruise ship industry up until 2004 which is when the book was written. It details the battles of the founders of 3 of the 4 major cruise lines as well as a great deal of information about the industry in general including a lot on the port of Miami. This book is out of print and I had to but a used copy but I really wished there was a Kindle version. Finally, the narrative gets a bit interrupted in chapter 8 and 10 as the author gets on the high horse about various cruise industry practices. While I do not disagree with what was written, it was beat a little to hard and too much and broke the flow of the book. So for that and the lack of a Kindle version I give it 4 stars.Definitely worth the read.

I'm glad I bought this book because I can read it over and over. It is so interesting to read. Even though it's full of facts, it is written in an "easy to read" format and not full of technical wording. It mainly focuses on the Arisons and Carnival and their history but enough is mentioned about the history of the other cruise lines to keep acquisitions of Ted and Micky in perspective.

If you have ever been on a cruise, especially lately, on one of the big new ships, this is a must read. It provides you with the history of the cruise industry, primarily in the United States, with a little Europe thrown in. You might be thinking that a history of this industry would be boring, but Garin is an exceptional storyteller and reporter (the source notes are very impressive). He does an excellent job of introducing you to the men behind the ships, the Port of Miami, and the mergers and acquistions that led up to two companies owning 90% of the cruise market.And yes, he talks about The Love Boat. :-)The book isn't all about the good stuff; he reports on corruption (both on and off the ships), sexual assaults of passengers by crew members, environmental issues, and why most of the employees come from impoverished nations. Not only does he report on these issues, he illuminates how the industry allowed these to occur. As for the last point, labor is the most expensive cost of a cruise - Garin explains the process that the companies use recruit people to work on the ships (and to keep them there).Even with the reporting of the above blemishes, it is still a facinating book. If you are interested in any aspect of the cruise industry (even as a simple vacationer), Garin explains how each company operated and marketed themselves. How they were able to work the travel agents, Congress, tax and maritime laws to their advantage. I came away with a much better understanding of the nature of Flags of Convenience and what that means to you, the traveller, as well as to the bottom lines of the cruise companies.A great book on the rise and maturation of an industry. But I don't think that your cruise staff will appreciate you reading this while on-board.As an aside, I bought the book from Amazon for $7 (Borders had it for $25). When it arrived, I found that I had an autographed copy! What a deal.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book because I am a cruise enthusiast with many cruises under my belt. If you want to have a good idea as to how present day cruise lines came to be what they are today, multi-billion dollar companies, this is the book for you.The book touches on the early competitive years between Carnival, Royal Carribean and Norwegian cruise lines and the men that shaped their development. Prominent of those is of course the Arison family that owned much of Carnival. This is an easy to read book with a lot of exciting chapters particularly dealing with the big showdowns between Carnival and Royal Caribbean in their quest to become the biggest in the industry.

As someone else stated in their review, if you work in the cruise industry, this is a must read for its historical significance. As someone who enjoys cruising, I was a bit put off by it. The book should be entitled "The Life and Times of Micky Aronson," or perhaps "Isn't Carnival the Best Cruiseline Ever?" because it spent far too much time on Carnival and its wars (read: victories) over rival RCI. As an avid cruiser, I don't like Carnival, but I did enjoy reading the history of one particular line instead of a history of the industry.The author spends too much time focusing on Carnival and not enough on the other players in the industry. There are a few pages about the start of NCL but then it is left behind. What about Renaissance? What about Home? What about all of the other lines, most of which are no longer in existence? Aren't they part of the history of the industry as well? I'd like to read about them as well and how their demise played into the story of the industry as it exists today. I didn't get much of that.The author almost takes pride in the accomplishments of Carnival Cruise Lines and how it has scooped the competition (mostly Royal Caribbean) over the years. As a cruiser who would rather cruise Royal (or sister company Celebrity) over Carnival, I felt like I was cheering for the underdog that never wins. There's more to the story of the cruise industry than what is written in these pages.BTW, of the paperback version, someone skipped out on their proof reading duties. The book is replete with misspellings.

Having cruised for 65 plus years, this book was interesting to me, but the 2nd half of the book got bogged down with much to much unnecessary detail. It needs some better editing
