I confess, I wasn't expecting much from this book after having received many books from this publisher for free before. This book is called a third grade science textbook. This book does not deserve to be called a textbook, much less a third grade textbook. If whatever is in this book is the only thing taught to our third graders these days, then no wonder our society is as superficial and unknowing as it is. Excerpt from the book: "The skin is a major organ that covers our entire body. Skin is the human body's largest organ." And? That's it? What function does our skin serve? What is it made up of? You are a third grade textbook, so please give the proper information that a third grade textbook is supposed to give or do not call yourself that!
I teach a special education science class. Even though I teach in a high school, the ability level of my class ranges from 3-5 grade. I thought this would be a good addition to my curriculum. I got this for free in return for a review, but let me say, this isn't even worth $.99. It has 5 organs with about 2 sentences about each with pictures. The descriptions were too high for even my student's abilities and there wasn't much explanation of any of the content words or their interactions with each other.. I could use this as the very bare bones of a PowerPoint and beef it up to the point where it'd be unrecognizable. I received this product at a discount in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. Human Organs, What & Why? : Third Grade Science Textbook Series: 3rd Grade Books - Anatomy (Children's Anatomy & Physiology Books), is an ebook I was offered for my Kindle. My first impression from the title and picture was that it was going to be a big lengthy text book but for 3rd graders. Once I downloaded it to my Kindle I was actually very surprised, and it was not what I was expecting. The title does state that it's a 3rd grade book, well I cannot agree. It's very short 18 pages and briefly goes over 7 organs. (I've attached a few screen shots of the book.) Each organ has very few details, in my opinion this is more of an introduction to the human organs for a new 1st grader not for a 3rd grader. The one thing I did enjoy is the pictures/illustrations. The colors are beautiful and will really help a young student understand where that specific organ is located in the body.This is not an ebook I would purchase, I've had several 3rd graders and this is way below they knowledge and understanding of the human body. Now, when my kids were in 1st grade this would have been perfect. I gave it 2 stars only because of the detailed well illustrated images.I received this item free or at a discount in exchange for my honest opinion in the form of a review and that is exactly what I have provided. This was a fairly good book for my son who is home schooled and doing a summer reading challenge with the library. He really loves learning about new things, so we were happy for him to dive in and read this one.PROS:- It has a lot of various facts about the body. He did learn quite a few things throughout the book.- The images are really neat, and fun to look at- The font is large enough that it's not a strain on the eyesCONS:- Many of the facts did need a bit of 'adult explanation' as it wasn't elaborated enough to be understood (my son is going into 3rd grade). Many of the words were also a bit advanced for second and third graders vocabularies. Every other fact I would need to help explain things in better detail and help him with the terminology. It would have been a bit better if large words were elaborated with their meaning.- It was quite short book and took my son under 10 minutes to go through from beginning to end.Overall however, he did enjoy it, and it was a good educational experience.*I only review products that I am genuinely interested in and have used, tested, tried. My opinion will always be 100% honest - if I love it, you'll know, if I don't, it will definitely reflect in my review. With that being said, I did receive this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review.*
This eBook is a great reference material for elementary school kids. I love to see pictures in a science book, and this ebook includes a good variety of really vivid pictures/illustration that students will appreciate. The book explains content and show pictures along with content and by itself. Illustrations really talk on this ebook. You can see a sample of what I am taking about below. I really love it! My three year old daughter was asking me questions and saying "its so pretty". I receive this ebook for free in exchange of my honest review.
