I was impressed with the amount of detailed information in this guide. It contains chapters on history, climate, phones and internet, transportation, shopping, parks, hotels and much more. A good guide to use when planning a for a trip to this busy metro area and to use when you get there.

Was pleased with this book. Very good information for the first time and experienced travellers. No problem recommending this book if you will be exploring the Philippines.

Is there such a thing as too much information in a guide? Peter does an excellent job in covering every single detail when venturing to the Philippines. Great job Peter!:)

I found little detail in this guide that was helpful. I was hoping to get good insider information specific to Manila, but did not find it here. For example, the restaurant recommendations included TGIF and Outback Steakhouse. Not the local experience I was looking for. When I did try one of the local recommendations it was not at the location cited. Restaurants can certainly come and go, but it added to my frustration and conclusion that the guide was disappointing.Overall the guide was more of a list of options than recommendations or insights.

Very poorly written, and really boring. But there are a lot of shopping malls to look forward to slugging through!

Bought this to carry it in my Kindle as I traveled the Philippines. It was almost useless. Basic info about the city and country, and page upon page upon page about the hotels. I bet I looked at it only twice, with the second look only confirming the first.

About the Author

Dawn Clifford, PhD, RD, is Associate Professor and Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at California State University, Chico. In addition, she cofounded and is currently Director of FitU, a peer mentoring nutrition and exercise counseling program on campus. She received the Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award from Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors, a practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Dr. Clifford conducts research and is an accomplished speaker in the areas of MI and non-diet approaches to health and wellness. She has published several research articles in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior and written curricula for Today’s Dietitian and Nutrition Dimensions. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). Laura Curtis, MS, RD, is Director of Nutritional Services at Glenn Medical Center in Willows, California, where she provides clinical nutrition services to patients in acute care and is a nutrition therapist for the outpatient clinic. In addition, she serves as a preceptor to undergraduate dietetic students and a part-time lecturer at California State University, Chico. Ms. Curtis has extensive training in MI at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. As a Registered Dietitian, I am always on the lookout for ways to learn to do my job better. By that I mean, ways to help my clients more effectively. I was turned onto Motivational Interviewing a number of years ago and have read a few books on the topic. The other books were helpful but I would get a bit frustrated with the examples they provided as they were often related to issues other than food and healthy lifestyle choices. This book, on the other hand, is all about helping clients with their eating and making healthy lifestyle changes. It is the best book I have read on the subject and I would say it is a "Must Read" for anyone who works with people to help them make healthy diet and lifestyle choices.

This is a terrific book that I'm finding very helpful as a personal trainer and nutrition coach. I wish I could take all the info in this book and just perfectly get it in my head and practice, but that will take time. :-) In just the first few chapters I've learned a lot that I've been able to start applying so I can be more effective with communicating with clients.

This is an excellent and fun read and a must-have starting point for dietitians or clinicians of any background or age. More applicable to the outpatient population for sure, but it does cover more fast-paced inpatient examples of motivational interviewing. I recommend this book to all food and nutrition professionals - students, interns, new RDs, or the most experienced RDs with a million more letters after their names. Concrete examples which are numerous and helpful.

This book is invaluable for the nutrition, fitness, and health counseling field! I learned so much and apply it on a daily basis for my position as a therapist. Highly recommend!
